1) Currently in the US there are 57 million Hispanic people, 18% of the total population of the country.
2) Two-thirds of the US Hispanic community is of Mexican origin (35.3 million). It is followed by Puerto Ricans (5.3 million) and Cubans, Salvadorans, Guatemalans, Colombians and Dominicans with one million each.
3) According to 2013 data, 68% of Hispanics speak English fluently, up from 59% in 2000. However, 71% consider that it is not necessary to speak Spanish.
