To apply for naturalization to become a U.S. citizen, you must: -You are 18 years of age or older at the time you submit your application. -You have been a lawful permanent resident for the past three or five years (depending on the naturalization category under which you are applying). -You have resided and been physically present in the United States. -You can read, write and speak basic English unless an exception applies. -You demonstrate good moral character -You demonstrate knowledge and understanding of U.S. history and government -You demonstrate loyalty to the principles of the U.S. Constitution -You are willing to take the Oath of Allegiance.
